Industrial Hammer Mills

Williams Patent Crusher is a leading hammer mill manufacturer. Our industrial size reduction machines can handle any material size reduction job.

Choose Williams machinery for efficient pulverizing and long-term service. Hammer mills use midair and impact crushing, grinding, and shredding. This allows them to handle virtually any material.

Learn more about each of our hammer mill crushers below and contact the Williams team to discuss your application. Our sales engineers can help you find the right machine for the job.

What is a Hammer Mill Used For?

A hammer mill is a particle size reduction machine. After the material is fed into the machine, the hammer mill uses its continual high-speed hammer to grind and crush the material into smaller pieces.

Mills can be primary, secondary, or tertiary crushers, allowing for a wide variety of applications.

What is the Finished Product Size?

The finished product size depends on a few variables of the machine:

  • Number and size of hammers
  • Rotor speed
  • The settings of the grinding plate
  • Size of the openings in the perforated screens

Mills are often used for crushing and grinding material to particles smaller than 10 US mesh, which is less than 0.08” in size. Learn more about size reduction options with our Particle Size Conversion Chart.

What Industries Use Hammer Mills?

Williams hammer mills are a popular machine for particle size reduction. Many of our customers use these machines primarily as rock and limestone crushers. However, these machines are incredibly versatile.

Some of the industries and applications that benefit from this machine are:

  • Agricultural industry: To crush feed, grains, and agricultural limestone into digestible particles
  • Energy industry: To reduce fuel sources such as coal, corn, wood, biomass, biofuels, and more
  • Aggregate industry: To crush and grind gypsum, shells, limestone, clays, and more
  • Recycling industry: To finely crush printed circuit boards, “meatballs” and light scrap fiberglass
  • Medical industry: To create fine powders to use in chemicals or pharmaceuticals

Hammer Mill Grinders from Williams Crusher

Williams has been designing and manufacturing industry-leading hammer mills since 1871. We continue to innovate to meet the ever-evolving needs of our customers worldwide.

Williams strives to provide our customers with the latest advancements in the crushing and pulverizing industry. This ensures that you’ll receive a quality machine that adds efficiency and ruggedness to your production for years to come.

High Tonnage Hammer Mills

Williams’ heavy-duty mills are great for handling high-tonnage size reduction jobs. These machines can reduce large materials, such as automobile bodies, into particles smaller than 6”.

Other applications of this machine include:

  • Rock and coal crushing
  • Reducing limestone to sand
  • Pulverizing metal turnings
  • Shredding waste, wood, and paper for baling or burning

Slugger Crusher Hammer Mills

This type of mill is the ideal choice for applications that require a large feed opening. It is suitable for continuous jobs with either hourly output or reduction ratio.

These machines have rigid steel plate frames that resist shock and failure from fatigue. The adjustable breaker plates also compensate for wear.

Traveling Breaker Plate Mills

The Traveling Breaker Plate Mill is a non-clog hammer mill. This engineering allows a Slugger Crusher to reduce rock, clay, shale, and bauxite to less than ¾”.

It can reduce wet, sticky materials to a size suitable for further refinement. This machine’s self-cleaning breaker plates reduce maintenance and service costs.

NF & GA Type Hammer Mills

These mills are “overrunning” machines, reducing material on breaker plates and then crushing on grates. They are designed for operations that need processed feed before reaching the discharge area.

Both models have very rugged construction for considerable material reduction.

Reversible Hammer Mills

This machine's name comes from its ability to reverse the direction of the rotor. This rotor supports the hammers, bringing fresh grinding edges into action.

The reversible capabilities lower the frequency of service. Our reversible mills increase your production, double the life of your hammers, and reduce maintenance costs.

Rigid Arm Breakers

This type of hammer mill has rigid hammers rather than swing mounted. This design feature makes this machine effective for the pulverization of soft, bulky, or fibrous materials into fine powders.

It is also suitable for reducing friable materials, such as coal, where low dust is desired. Each rigid arm breaker features many edges, which can be indexed and presented throughout the machine’s lifetime.
